Celebrate National Prosecco Day with Chef & Brewer
National Prosecco Day falls on August 13th every year, and we think that's reason enough to make a proper afternoon of it, so clear your calendar and come join us for that beautiful "pop" of prosecco opening at your nearest Chef & Brewer pub.
The perfect bubbly drink for special occasions, lazy Sundays and everything in between, each sip of prosecco is a moment to savour with friends at a (hopefully) sunny spot in one of our countryside pubs.
But what is prosecco, where is it made, and why should you enjoy a glass with us at Chef & Brewer? Let's take a closer look.
What is prosecco and where is it made?
A traditional bottle of prosecco begins its life in the vineyards of Northern Italy, and the name prosecco comes from the village of Prosecco, just outside of Trieste. The rolling hills of Veneto cradle the Glera grape, the balmy days of summer, good soil, and a fair bit of Italian patience do the rest. It's that combination of place and craft that gives prosecco its light, refreshing character.
So next time you take a sip, you'll know a little more about why our beloved beverage tastes so good. (Not that you needed an excuse to try another glass.)
What's the difference between champagne and prosecco?
Apart from taste and flavour profile, there are a few key differences between champagne and prosecco. As we've already mentioned, prosecco is traditionally made in Northern Italy, primarily from Glera prosecco grapes. At the same time, champagne is produced exclusively in the Champagne region of France, using Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier grapes grown in the area.
When it comes to production, prosecco is usually made using the traditional Italian production method, where fermentation happens in large steel tanks. Champagne is famous for its 'method traditionale', where fermentation occurs in the wine bottle itself.

National Prosecco Day is the perfect date to gather in our beautiful beer gardens if the weather obliges, and we're keeping our fingers crossed for some August sun. What pairs well with prosecco?
Prosecco is often overlooked when considering food pairings, which is a crying shame because its fine bubbles and light flavour go with many different foods. Enjoy a glass of prosecco with lighter lunch choices such as salmon, white fish or salads, or swap your usual red for a glass of bubbly when you order rich meats or cheese boards at dinner.
