Why choose Chef & Brewer for Burns Night?
Burns Night is a much-loved annual celebration of Scotland’s greatest poet, Robert Burns, whose works have stood the test of time. Held each year on Burns’ birthday, 25th January, it’s an evening dedicated to good food, fine whisky, and the company of loved ones. Central to the event is the ceremonial Address to a Haggis, a theatrical ode to this iconic Scottish dish.
From the unmistakable sound of bagpipes to the toasts and recitations of Burns’ works, the night is a blend of history and joy. At Chef & Brewer, we take pride in creating an atmosphere that pays tribute to this long-standing tradition, with dishes and drinks crafted to honour the poet’s legacy.
Whether you’re here for the food, the whisky, or the camaraderie, Burns Night is a celebration that brings people together in the most memorable way.
What is the correct greeting on Burns Night?
On Burns Night, tradition and cheer go hand in hand, and even the simplest of greetings can set the tone for an unforgettable evening. The most fitting way to mark the occasion is with a heartfelt “Slàinte Mhath” (pronounced “slanj-a-va”), which means “Good health” in Scots Gaelic. This toast, shared with a dram of whisky, captures the spirit of gathering together and celebrating life’s simple pleasures.
If you're keen to embrace the spirit of Robert Burns, why not open the evening with one of his own lines? “Here's a bottle and an honest friend! What wad ye wish for mair?” No matter if you’re welcoming friends to the table or raising your glass to a great night ahead, these words capture the sense of joy, connection, and gratitude that make Burns Night so special.
