You can settle down with a hearty, carefully crafted plate of food and sip something special from the bar. It feels like a home away from home, turning a simple pub trip into the perfect pause.
Why our countryside village pubs are so special
You can’t beat the beauty of the Great British countryside, and many of our village pubs sit right at the heart of it. You get all the charm of a classic pub, the warmth of a welcoming community of people, and idyllic scenery right on your doorstep.
Tuck into traditional food dishes from our restaurant menu, like fish & chips or steak & ale pies, as well as scampi and steak sandwiches. We've also got a kids' food menu to please little ones!
Stop by our pub food restaurants on Sunday for a well-earned roast, and be sure to browse our drinks menu to take your pick from a wide range. From frosty pints to crisp wines, cocktails and non-alcoholic options.
Many of our idyllic village pubs are housed in historical buildings, so walking through the door feels like a love letter to the past. You can enjoy stories from old coach houses, riverside train stations or even Grade II listed buildings; the history in our pubs is as varied and far-reaching as our menus.
Stop by for breakfast before a hearty walk, take a pause for a leisurely lunch or settle in for a relaxed dinner. Our restaurant dining areas have cosy seating and dishes served hot to your table. Enjoy the views from one of our village country pub beer gardens, or stay the night when you book a room at one of our country pub hotels.
Some of our best village pubs
Whether you’re looking for a new local, just passing through, or staying for a few days, head to one of our village pubs and experience our warm welcome for yourself.
Wilderness walks
Visit the famous champagne capital of Britain with your friends and four-legged companion in tow by hiking through the landscapes surrounding Alderley Edge, before stopping for a drink at the De Trafford Arms. Here you can snuggle up with your dog and order from our restaurant menu or kids' menu of British pub classics. Be it breakfast, lunch or dinner, there's so much to tempt you! And once you’ve recharged, get back out on one of the many countryside walks on the doorstep of this lovely village pub.
Riverside rests
Experience the Riverside Inn, located in the charming village of Cound on the outskirts of Shrewsbury. Here, you can take in the sights of the River Severn while breathing in the history of the Grade II listed building that used to act as a railway station for the small village. In the warmer months, enjoy the sunshine at the outdoor bar for an even better view of the water and the boats that float down it.
Stay the night
Want to stay in these beautiful villages for a little while longer? You can do just that at the Himley House in the picturesque Staffordshire village of Himley. Settle into the comfortable bedrooms upstairs before setting out on a hike through the hills. Or simply take in the rich history of the pub itself, as a former lodgehouse to the famous nearby Himley Hall.
Step into the movies
The White Horse pub can be found tucked between Guildford and Dorking in the picturesque Surrey village of Shere. The charming inn is straight out of a film, surrounded by winding cobbled lanes and rows of thatched homes, as well as the nearby River Tillingbourne. In fact, it’s so picture-perfect that it was used as a filming location for the beloved festive film The Holiday. The local people always offer such a warm welcome, and the dishes from the food menu are made to be savoured.
Embrace Essex's rural charm
The Boars Head sits in the picturesque village of Herongate, only a few miles from Brentwood’s bustling high street and conveniently close to Junction 28 of the M25. The area is rich in open green spaces perfect for walks, with charming 17th- and 18th-century cottages along the way. When it’s time to eat, you’ll find a food menu filled with timeless classics. And on warmer days, the spacious beer garden is the ideal spot to relax and soak up the sunshine.
