A Hertfordshire pub brimming with history

Nestled deep in the Hertfordshire countryside in the hamlet of Wadesmill is one of our best-loved country pubs, the traditional Feathers Inn. This historic building was once a coaching inn and has been in use since the 1600s. It has since been beautifully refurbished to maintain its unique character and is a real treat to visit.

At the Feathers Inn you will find a selection of food, drinks and snacks to suit whatever you're in the mood for. So whether you’re recharging after a pleasant day of bird-watching, a vigorous walk through nature, or are looking for an ice-cold drink in the summer sun, we’ve got what you need.

Historic pub haunts in Hertfordshire

One of Hertfordshire's main draws is its rich history, and if you're into that sort of thing you won't want to miss out on a visit to the Five Horseshoes pub. A Grade II-listed pub set into the attractive village of Little Berkhamsted, it's the perfect place for a spot of lunch or dinner.

The surrounding village is known for Stratton's Tower, a beautifully preserved five-storey observatory with views of the Thames, and as the home of Jane Wenham, famous for her conviction for witchcraft. Her 1712 trial is widely considered to be one of the last witch trials in England.

Enjoy a hearty meal at any time of day at the Five Horses pub, and soak in all the rich, fascinating history of the area. Join us for a filling pub breakfast, a leisurely lunch, or an indulgent dinner.

On nature’s doorstep

The pleasant market town of Baldock, located in North Hertfordshire, is home to the George IV - just the place to relax after a long week or weekend away. The town's high street is a charming stretch of historic buildings full of independent shops and local interest.

Famous for its history of chalk quarries that have been in operation since Roman times, Baldock is just a stone's throw away from the stunning Weston Hills, a local nature reserve right on our doorstep.

Room to rome

Just five miles from the famous sights of St. Albans, you will find the Old Bell, Harpenden. A lovely country pub with Grade II-listed status, it has been nestling into the Hertfordshire countryside since 1765. Being so close to St. Albans makes it easy to plan a visit to explore the ancient Roman remains and Mediaeval architecture, as well as making use of Luton airport if you need to.

You can book your table at the Old Bell online, and visit us to enjoy food, drinks and the cosy atmosphere with friends and family. Look out for our menu for children, it's full of their favourite flavours and gives our littlest diners plenty of choice.

Ver Valley views

In the rural outskirts of Redbourn, along a road lined with hedgerows, you'll find the Chequers Inn. Whether you want to burn off a delicious dinner or to embrace the bustling countryside and lush wetlands of the Ver Valley, there’s so much to see and do near our pub in Redbourn. You simply must explore the local area on a relaxing walk, especially Redbourn Common.

The Chequer's Inn itself is a destination that's well worth a trip to Redbourn. Records aren't precise enough to say exactly when the building was erected, but English Heritage estimates that it was built in the 1500s. These days, we serve up a menu that's absolutely full of traditional British pub favourites and real, honest food for the whole family.
