A countryside retreat

Set in the beautiful countryside village of Dunham Massey on the outskirts of Altrincham, the Axe & Cleaver is a rustic and inviting country pub. The brick-and-stone-built pub dates back to 1800, and has a welcoming beer garden that’s dotted with trees and overlooks sweeping fields.

It’s just up the road from the National Trust’s Dunham Massey Hall too, where you’ll find roaming deer and a huge duck pond.

Village pub

Located on the former village green in the charming village of Didsbury, which is close to Altrincham, the Didsbury is a former coach house that sits proudly as you arrive in the village. The pub itself has retained many of its original 18th-century features and is still the heart of village life.

The Sunday roasts complete with giant Yorkshire pudding and lashings of gravy are always worth it. The beautiful Fletcher Moss Gardens are close by too.
