Five things that set our country hotels apart
At Chef & Brewer, we pride ourselves on our country hotels. Attached to our welcoming pubs, they provide a rustic room to lay your head during your travels. In this guide, we’ll explore the top five things we think set our enchanting country hotels apart from others.
1. Scenic surroundings and rural charm
When you wake up in one of our best country hotels, you’ll be instantly greeted by nature. Whether you’re staying at a hotel that’s deep in the countryside or in a small town or village, you’ll feel the air is fresher and the sky is clearer.
It’s tough to find a more scenic landscape than in Oxfordshire, at the Dog House hotel. Here, you can enjoy great food in the pub downstairs and a silent night’s sleep once your belly is full and your eyes are sagging.
If you’d like to stay somewhere more built up, the Himley House hotel is located in the small Staffordshire town of Himley. This hotel is the best of both worlds for if you want the countryside experience but still want to stay within the gaze of civilization.
2. Personalised hospitality and warmth
Though each of our countryside hotels are unique, our Chef & Brewer standards run through every venue. Our friendly staff are on hand to make you feel welcome and care for your every need while you stay with us.
De Trafford Arms in Alderley Edge dates back over 200 years and is known for its impeccable level of service. After exploring the upmarket high street, you’ll be sure to have a cosy pub and bed to return to at the end of the day.
The Abbey Field in Kenilworth is another of our highly rated country pubs. Here, our staff can help you with functions, family events or simply a delicious meal. And once the party’s over, you’ll have a plump pillow to fall onto upstairs.
3. Unique architecture and design
As well as some newer establishments, we have lots of pubs and hotels housed within beautiful old buildings. Because of this, we’re able to offer you a wide variety of stunning, architecturally designed hotels to stay in. Not to mention the interior furnishings that aim to make you feel as comfortable as possible.
This is certainly the case in Shrewsbury’s picturesque Riverside Inn. This stunning Grade II listed building dates back to the 1800s when it was used as a coach house. Inside, you can feel the history seeping through the walls. And with a great view of the River Severn, you can’t go wrong with this hotel.
Another standout pub is the Dog & Partridge in Tutbury. This Georgian building stands as a local attraction due to its wattle and daub exterior on the high street of the peaceful town along the River Dove.
4. British dining experiences
We are dedicated to using fresh, locally sourced ingredients for our pub food menus, which pay tribute to classic British cuisine. And, because most of our hotels are in the countryside, we want to remove as many steps between the farm and your table as possible.
In the picture-perfect Cotswolds, the Rose Revived is a charming pub that values great food, freshly preparing each meal and using produce from nearby farms. While you stay here, explore the surrounding area of Oxfordshire and all the historic and cultural sites it has to offer.
Across the country, the Royal Inn in Portishead offers seafood that you can eat while on the waterside, with freshly prepared ingredients as well as all the pub classics you can expect to find at a Chef & Brewer pub.
5. Outdoor activities and adventure
Once you’re checked into our country hotels, more often than not you’ll have an abundance of things to do on your doorstep. Even if that’s just going for a relaxing walk through the countryside once you’ve unpacked your bags.
Some of our pubs even have activities of their own. Perched on the River Trent, the Riverside Hotel actually has its own private island with fishing rights and mooring for our guests to use at their leisure. And, outside the hotel, you can take a short stroll down the river into the lively town of Branston to explore the Roman history there.
Another hotel with ample activities nearby is the Kings Head in Masham. From here you can explore North Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. As well as attractions like Black Sheep Brewery, Thirsk Museum and Thirsk Racecourse.
