Five of the best walks in Surrey – and a pub to pair with each one

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of fresh country air filling your lungs as you step into the gently rolling green hills and peaceful wooded trails of Surrey. Just a short distance from the hustle and bustle of the capital, this scenic county provides a wonderful escape into nature and is home to some of the best walks in the South East.

At Chef & Brewer, we’ve partnered with AllTrails to showcase the best countryside pub walks in the UK. We want to celebrate the charms of the British countryside and help bring it to life at your local countryside pub. Wherever your boots take you, you’ll find a warm welcome, a well-poured pint and a delectable menu of seasonal pub classics at the end of the trail.

Gomshall Mill & Netley Park Circular Walk

If you’re looking for a short, scenic route in the Surrey Hills, the Gomshall Mill & Netley Park trail is well worth a go. This 4.5km trail near Shere takes in quiet woodland tracks, some gentle climbs and sweeping views across the North Downs. It’s a moderate walk with a few uphill stretches, but manageable for most – and at around 90 minutes long, it’s ideal for a weekend leg-stretch without taking up the whole day.

Once you’ve looped back to the start, there’s no better way to relax than with a well-earned visit to the White Horse. Movie buffs may recognise this beautiful pub as the place where Cameron Diaz and Jude Law shared a drink in the hit Christmas film, The Holiday.

While you’re here, treat yourself to a refreshing drink, some traditional pub food or the true highlight: a hearty Sunday Roast with all the classic trimmings. It’s one of the most welcoming dog-friendly pubs in Surrey, too –
