Winter proposals and countryside getaways

Win a £250 Chef & Brewer hotel stay for you and your loved one

Pining for that picture-perfect proposal? Sure, a tropical beach at sunset sounds lovely, but with so much rugged beauty right on your doorstep, you needn’t root around for that passport just yet (that can wait for the honeymoon). Almost a third (29%) of Brits say their dream engagement would take place on a countryside walk with a scenic view, and luckily, we know of a few.

Yes, we all dream of the moment that special someone gets down on one knee and pops the all-important question – “Pub?” – just kidding! But considering 45% of Geordies say a cosy pub is the number one place they’d want within walking distance to celebrate a new engagement, and almost half (47%) of Londoners got engaged on a walk that ended at the pub, it’s not a bad idea after all!

To enter, we’d like you to tell us what your perfect winter proposal would look like…

But what about the rest of the country? Well, let’s find out what they think about countryside proposals.

The Lake District is for lovers
There are few areas of the UK that match the breathtaking natural beauty of the Lake District. No wonder it’s been crowned the UK’s most romantic spot for a countryside proposal, according to over half (51%) of Brits. Scousers are the Lake District’s biggest fans, with two thirds (66%) considering it the most romantic location to pop the question.

Bristolians are besotted with scenic views
Nothing gets the heart pumping like a stunning countryside view, and the good folks of Bristol can attest to that! Bristolians think a countryside walk with a scenic view is the ideal set-up for a romantic proposal. When asked, 41% said it’s their dream engagement location (and we’re inclined to agree).

Shining bright in Brighton

Brits consider winter scenery, twinkling lights and Christmas decorations the top reasons countryside proposals spark so much joy. Brighton leads the way, with 68% saying it’s the Christmas lights and decorations specifically that make festive proposals shine the brightest.

So, if you want the chance to make your dream proposal a reality, enter our competition to win a fabulous country hotel getaway for two. Remember, all you have to do is enter your details and tell us all about your plans (or what you hope your partner has planned).
