Another Veganuary, another excuse to sample a whole host of delicious vegan dishes. Excited? We sure are! Here at Chef & Brewer, we like to think we know a thing or two about crafting plant-based perfection, not that we’re bragging or anything! 

Whether you’re a veteran vegan, or you’re giving Veganuary a go for the first time, we have a few tricks up our sleeves to make the first month of the year the tastiest by far.

What is Veganuary?

So, you may have heard of Veganuary, but what exactly is it? In short, Veganuary is a global movement that encourages people to embrace a vegan lifestyle throughout January, and the beauty is, anyone can take part. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about the small changes that make a big difference. 

People participate in Veganuary for various reasons. Some do it for the animals, some for the environment, and some for the health benefits. After all, a balanced vegan diet is rich in vitamins and minerals; perfect if you want to start the year feeling great.

To start 

Soup of the Day

At Chef & Brewer, our vegan and vegetarian Soup of the Day is always ready to warm you up, especially on those crisp January afternoons. Each bowl is packed with fresh, seasonal ingredients, making it an ideal choice for Veganuary, whether you’re visiting us midweek or slowing things down at the weekend. And don’t forget the wedge of white bloomer bread for dipping! It’s a comfort food classic that never goes out of style. 

Creamy Garlic Mushrooms 
If you simply cannot give up dairy for the month, choosing more vegetarian options is still a great way to contribute to the Veganuary effort. Another classic starter, but this time, mushrooms are the star of the show. Grilled to perfection, drenched in wild garlic butter, and served on a thick slice of toasted sourdough with a creamy garlic sauce.

The main event 

Mushroom & Ale Pie 

 Rich, earthy mushrooms and ale come together in a golden, flaky pastry to create the perfect comfort food to combat those brisk January days. Served with herb-roasted carrots, seasonal veg and your choice of creamy mash or oven-baked chips, this pie is pure warmth in every bite. 

Roasted Vegetable Grain Salad 

 Savour our Roasted Vegetable Grain Salad, consisting mixed leaves with a lentil & quinoa grain mix, roasted beetroot, red onion and butternut squash, paired with tomato and cucumber ribbons, then drizzled with lemon & parsley oil. Feeling extra hungry? You can top your Roasted Vegetable Grain Salad with yet more perfectly roasted butternut squash or halloumi.   

Garden Vegetable Burger 
Sink your teeth into our juicy Garden Vegetable Burger this Veganuary. Its hearty pattie is packed with wholesome grains and vegetables, topped with sweet oven-roasted peppers and smoky tomato chutney. If you’re keeping things veggie, you can add an extra layer of deliciousness with Blackstone Vintage Cheddar Cheese. 

Vegetable Grill 
Our Vegetable Grill is a delicious way to enjoy a flavour-packed plate of plant-powered goodness, with a sage butternut squash steak, flat field mushroom, roasted onion, spiced sweet potatoes and charred courgette. Paired with garden peas, grilled tomato, chips, and balsamic gravy (and trust us when we say we could drink that stuff from the jug). It’s ideal for those frosty days when you crave something hearty, soul-warming and satisfying. 

 Sundays 
Here at Chef & Brewer, we like to think we know a thing or two about Sunday roasts, so why should the vegans and veggies have to miss out? Join us for Sunday lunch, and kick off your hearty Veganuary feast with Bread & Oil, specifically sourdough and ciabatta with cold pressed rapeseed oil and balsamic glaze – delicious! Onto the main, our Woodland Mushroom Bourguignon Wellington is a superbly savoury and fabulously filling alternative to the classic roast beef or chicken, served with roast potatoes, herb-roasted carrots, seasonal vegetables, stuffing and gravy. 

 Lighter Bites 
Popping in for a spot of lunch this Veganuary? Our vegan Roasted Vegetable Tart is filled to the brim with roasted garden vegetables and served with tender roast new potatoes and a seasonal salad. For the veggies, there’s nothing like a cheese toastie on a chilly day, and our Great British Cheese Toastie is generously loaded with Blackstone Vintage Cheddar and Cricket St. Thomas Camembert, perfectly melted and gorgeously gooey. 

Hearty breakfasts 

A little extra help on cold, January mornings is always appreciated. Start your day right with our hearty Plant-Based Breakfast, featuring two delicious veggie sausages alongside a crispy hash brown, wilted spinach, a grilled flat field mushroom, baked beans, grilled tomato and a thick slice of toasted bloomer bread. And if you fancy the veggie version, you can add your choice of a poached, scrambled or fried free-range egg.
