Celebrate National Yorkshire Pudding Day with Chef & Brewer

Ahhh, the delightful Yorkshire pudding... Crispy, fluffy and truly delicious, we think it might just be the best part of a Sunday roast – just don't tell the roasties we said that.

Yorkshire puddings couldn't really be more deserving of their own national celebration, could they? As the backbone of the humble Sunday roast, Yorkies are a legend of traditional pub grub, and here at Chef & Brewer, we take them very seriously.

When it comes to a Sunday roast at the end of the week, we Brits have high expectations. There'll be no soggy bottoms and certainly no burnt tops over here! Our Yorkshire puddings are the crown jewel of our Sunday roasts, and once you take a bite, you'll soon see why.

National Yorkshire Pudding Day

This year, National Yorkshire Pudding Day falls (very aptly) on Sunday, the 1st of February. Could there be a more perfect day to celebrate the Yorkshire pudding than a Sunday? We don't think so.

In the United Kingdom, we feel very strongly about our British roast dinners, and the Yorkshire pudding is no different. Let's give it the respect it deserves this February!

Our recipe for the perfect National Yorkshire Pudding Day

On the 1st of February, we'll be up bright and early to prepare our Yorkshire puddings, meats, roasties and trimmings, ready to celebrate National Yorkshire Pudding Day in style with our timelessly tasty Sunday roasts.

Our chefs will start by slowly roasting our rib of beef for seven hours, creating the most tender and flavourful roast beef you've ever tasted. While that's cooking, we'll start on our pork, beef and turkey, because what's a Sunday roast without a little variety?

Once our meats are roasting away, we'll move on to our show-stopping roasties. Hand cut, ruffled and roasted with duck fat & rosemary, each bite is oh-so crispy, oh-so delicious and oh-so 'mmm'!

And while our meats and roasties are becoming more delicious by the minute, we'll be cutting, seasoning, blanching and roasting our vegetables. From root vegetables to tender seasonal greens, our vibrant veggies are nothing short of perfection. Gone are the days of 'one more forkful', because only the best of the British countryside makes it onto our Sunday roasts.

Next, we'll carefully measure, mix and bake our sausage meat stuffing so that it’s soft in the middle and crispy on the outside. Just how it should be. A traditional trimming like stuffing shouldn't be messed with, after all!

While the stuffing bakes, we'll get a start on our rich, savoury gravy. We like ours thick, if you know what we mean, so we reduce our gravy to get the best flavour and the best drip we can possibly produce. It's only the tastiest of gravy on our Sunday roast menu!

Our glorious Yorkshire puddings

Finally, we'll begin on the star of the show: the Yorkshire puddings! Our recipe is simple, and a secret. Sorry! But we can tell you that we weigh out each ingredient (including a special secret ingredient that makes our Yorkies the best in town), lovingly mix the batter until there are no lumps in sight (because who wants a lumpy Yorkie?) and pour them into our precious Yorkshire pudding trays to bake in the oven.

To ensure maximum rise, we keep the oven door firmly closed and we check every few minutes for the perfect crispy, golden brown colour we know and love. Now that's a true Yorkshire pudding recipe if we've ever heard it!

Yorkshire puddings: the best food since sliced bread

Why wait until February to say it how it is? A Yorkshire pudding can't be beaten! But how best to enjoy yours?

Maybe you like yours dripping with gravy? Certainly, once you catch a glimpse of our gravy, you'll want to dunk, dip and scoop as much as your Yorkie can carry. We've never seen a plate cleaner than after a Yorkshire pudding's been around it!

If you prefer to maintain that crispy crunch, might we suggest attacking the Yorkshire pudding first? Don't let the meat tempt you; the real star of the show is ready and waiting, and it's calling your name.
