A stroll around Cockpit Lane Short Circular

A 2.6km, easy route starting from Chester Road, or the A556, this walk takes you up Kennel Lane to join a trail across small hills and farmland, where sheep can often be spotted milling around. The trail ends on Cockpit Lane, which takes you back onto Chester Road and past the Blue Cap — the perfect place to stop off and rest tired legs with a pint of craft cask ale after this 45-minute ramble! Best explored from December until September, this route is relatively short and is ideal for hiking, running or casual strolling. Will you spot any interesting wildlife on this circuit?

Mosey around Marton Sands

3.2km of walking along the beautiful, forested shores of Marton Sands Lake, what could be more perfect? This route will take you just under an hour and begins on Dalefords Lane. You'll saunter around the outskirts of the Daleford Manor Caravan Park and continue walking until Marton Sands peeks through the bushes and trees ahead. Then, it's a wander around the water and onto the trail path between Overdale Lane and Nova Scotia Lane, with another body of water on the opposite side of the path. A turn left will take you along the other side of the lake and back to Dalefords Lane, where the Blue Cap sits just five minutes away, ready for you to refuel with a hearty pub classic after completing this beautiful trail.

Hike from Plough to Blakemere and Pettypool

An 11.6km trail that's moderately challenging, this route is great for those wanting a little longer in the fresh air and it's recommended by our General Manager, Kayte. This trail takes a little over three hours to complete and is popular with hikers, runners and walkers from January until August. You'll set off from Blakemere and mosey past Nunsmere, wander through Abbotsmass Wood and grab a glimpse of Lymm Vale before looping across Bogart Brook and towards Cassia Green Lane, which leads you back towards Marton Sands. Follow the trail across Dalefords Lane and towards Pettypool Wood before heading back towards Blakemere to finish the route off. Blakemere is just five minutes from the Blue Cap too, so you can enjoy a hard-earned meal with us after attempting this massive walk.
