AS OF THE 20TH MARCH WE ARE CLOSED

It is with great sadness we have called last orders in all our pubs for the time being to support the fight against COVID-19. But don’t worry, we are busy working on opening our doors again with the safety of our teams and customers as our number one priority. While we continue to follow government guidelines, we’re getting excited for the day we can meet again and raise a glass in the pub.

Until then, stay safe, and don’t forget us!

The Old Bell

OUR VIRTUAL PUB IS OPEN!

While our pubs are closed, we’ve decided to open a virtual pub, The Lock Inn. We know many of our customers are feeling cut-off from their friends and for some a visit to the pub is the only social contact they will have in a day. The Lock Inn aims to help tackle loneliness and isolation by offering activities and entertainment to encourage interaction. We’re starting with a WEEKLY INTERACTIVE QUIZ on Wednesdays at 6pm and ROCK AND ROLL BINGO every Friday at the same time, with more events and community support activities planned over the coming weeks.

Welcome to the

Old Bell

The Old Bell is a delightful Grade II Listed former farmhouse opened as a public house in 1735. Nestling in Harpenden and is surrounded by the beautiful Chilterns. A Grade II listed, 18th century former farmhouse, The Old Bell pub stands on the A1081 Luton Road, facing gently undulating meadows, in the leafy-green town of Harpenden. Famous for its abundant greens and commons, Harpenden sits between two river valleys at the foot of the Chiltern Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. A short walk from The Old Bell is an old brick railway arch, on top of which sits the Nickey Line, once an old railway line linking Harpenden, Hemel Hempstead and Redbourn, that's now a picturesque public footpath and cycleway, through some of Hertfordshire's prettiest woodland. Five miles to the north is Luton Airport, while the same distance south is one of the UK's most historic cities, St. Albans, home to Roman remains and magnificent medieval architecture. With plenty of period charm inside, including lovely open fires and exposed wooden beams, The Old Bell is the perfect place in which to enjoy a traditional pub lunch. Yet with its wide range of fine cask ales and quality ales, and its spacious tree-bordered beer garden, this pub is also a wonderful place to stop-off for a refreshing drink if you're walking the Hertfordshire countryside.
