George InnMill Lane, Bathampton, Bath, BA2 6TR
This picturesque, ivy-clad Grade II listed pub is perched on the bend of Mill Lane in the Somerset village of Bathampton. Across the road sits St Nicholas Church, while the Kennet and Avon Canal ebbs gently past the pub’s spacious beer garden. Visitors will often find pretty canal boats moored next to the pub, their owners coming ashore to sample our delicious British classics, fine wine and cask ales.
A five-minute stroll down the tree-lined country lane, past dry-stone walls and open meadows, brings the casual walker first to Bathampton Manor, then to Batheaston Toll Bridge and picturesque views out across the River Avon. Hop on the towpath, on bike or on foot, and follow it all the way to the city of Bath, a World Heritage Site.
A ten minute drive west, past Bath Golf Club, leads to the city centre. Or jump on the A46 north for eight miles to Junction 18 of the M4, which leads on to Bristol and Devon, or London to the east.
With its waterside location, delightful rural setting and ample outdoor terrace, The George Inn makes an ideal spot from which to watch the world go by, particularly in summer.
Yet the pub boasts bags of character indoors too – the kind that comes with age, not design. On chilly days guests will love the low ceilings, creaking beams, nooks and crannies, or to take the weight off in front of our real log fires. The George Inn offers a special kind of cosiness, that’s best enjoyed over a romantic meal and a glass of wine.
Visit any day of the week and take your pick from a delicious selection of traditional pub meals, fine Sunday roasts and delectable desserts.
