Greene King, our parent company have been brewing award-winning beers for more than 200 years. Constantly championing new flavours, using the finest ingredients and promoting new talent, Greene King have helped their employee Ross O’Hara become the youngest ever Master Brewer at the age of just 28.
Ross has joined an extremely exclusive group of just 578 master brewers from around the world, the Greene King employee gained his qualifications from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling to become the youngest ever master brewer.
Did You Know: Master Brewer is the highest level of brewing qualification offered by the IBD and is a measure of the level of a candidate's competence in the technical management of the brewing processes
The Greene King master brewer has brewed a new, light, golden ale exclusively for Chef & Brewer named Brewers Select.
The Greene King Way
Greene King understands how important the ingredients are to the quality of their ale. That’s why all of their beer is brewed using natural, hand-selected ingredients – from the water they extract from their chalk wells in Bury St. Edmunds to their East Anglian barley, their hops and, of course, their all-important yeast.
What’s more, they use rigorous quality control during the brewing process. Greene King’s ales are tasted between five and eight times during the production to ensure that they consistently achieve the best quality. It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it!
It’s exciting to think that they’ve had a brewery on their site since 1700. But even more impressive is that brewing in the town can be traced back as far as the Domesday book in 1086.
Did You Know: Greene King built a “new” brewhouse – Westgate Brewery – in 1938 and they are still using this building to brew all of their beers today. It’s designed so that gravity transfers the ingredients from one floor to the next for each stage of the brewing process.
Greene King are understandably really proud of their heritage, it’s taught them a lot. They are equally as proud as they are passionate about their beers today as their brewing ancestors were before them. So we’re confident that the new Brewers Select will be a beer that you will love.

Brewed With Food In Mind
Brewer’s Select pairs perfectly with dishes on our menu. With a similar serve to wine, you can share it with friends, or keep your glass topped up throughout your meal.
With tropical fruit notes, the perfect balance of bitter and sweet with a crisp finish, it pairs beautifully with chicken or seafood dishes. But it can also cut through spicy foods and fruity sauces or relishes.
We recommend enjoying a bottle or two of Brewers Select with the Chef’s Signature Hunter’s Chicken with its sticky IPA barbecue sauce it's the perfect match for Brewers Select.
