Well, here at Chef & Brewer, we think there is no right way to be when it comes to ordering gin…because this botanical liquor is great no matter how it's served! But do you know about the different types of gin we offer? We thought we'd give you the low-down on all our gins, so you can make an educated decision about which mix to try on your next visit.
Tonight we raise a toast to perfectly balanced botanicals, to Charles Tanqueray and 180 years of world-class gin, and to giving the night what it deserves Tanqueray is one of the world's most award-winning gins, with over 180 years of distilling excellence. First distilled in 1930 by Charles Tanqueray in Bloomsbury, London, Tanqueray is a blend of the purest four-times distilled spirit and a hand-picked selection of botanicals.
Tanqueray was sold in a clear, colourless bottle until 1948, when it was replaced by the now iconic green version. It is also said to have been Frank Sinatra's beverage of choice;
Williams Chase is Britain's only single estate gin. Established in 2008, Chase Distillery produces gin made from its very own vodka, infused with juniper buds and berries to ensure the driest flavour. Fine botanicals are then added into the mix, including: cinnamon, nutmeg, almonds, coriander, cardamom, cloves, liquorice and lemon. It's zesty with spicy notes!
It takes 16 tonnes of potatoes and 40 hours of fermentation to make 1,000 litres of alcohol
Hendrick's Gin was first introduced in 1999 by William Grant & Sons, from the small town of Girvan, Scotland. This gin combines two distilling methods, creating a smooth finish with a balance of flavours and character. The first process involves distilling flowers, roots, fruits and seeds from around the world - once fermented the elixir is then infused with rose petals and cucumber using a second method of distillation, creating its unique flavour.
Only Hendrick's is distilled in small batches of 1,000 litres or less, which gives their master distiller even greater control over the gin's quality of flavour and aroma
First launched in 1987, this triple distilled gin combines the flavours from ten botanical ingredients: almonds, lemon peel, liquorice, juniper berries, orris root, angelica, coriander, cassia, cubeb and grains of paradise. During the distillation process, the alcohol vapours are passed through a mesh basket containing the botanicals, which enhances the gin's flavour and aroma.
Its name originates from the gin's popularity in India during the British Raj, and the sapphire in question is the Star of Bombay on display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C.
First introduced in 1769 by Alexander Gordon, Gordon's Gin is the world's best-selling London Dry Gin, and the UK's number one gin since the late 19th century. Gordon's is a triple distilled gin, containing only the best hand-picked botanical ingredients: juniper berries, coriander seeds, angelica root, liquorice, orris root, and orange and lemon peel. It takes ten days of distillation to create the finished product.
The recipe for Gordon's Gin is known only to twelve people in the world, and has been kept a secret for 250 years
