A Newark man has joined the ranks of the upstanding characters in popular TV series Downton Abbey after winning a noble title for life from pub restaurant chain Chef & Brewer.

Peter Martin is now officially Lord Peter Martin of Kincavel after a grand presentation of his new title at the Half Moon on Chesterfield Road in Worksop, where he tasted Chef & Brewer’s new posh nosh menu with three friends.

Chef & Brewer launched the nationwide competition as part of its campaign to celebrate its winter menu, which includes Black Pearl scallops and organic Shetland Salmon. The pub restaurant group is trying to break down dining stereotypes by creating a menu to encourage people to try out new foods they wouldn’t necessarily cook at home, whilst also offering traditional pub classics.

Lord Peter: “Being a Lord or Lady isn’t something everyone can claim, so I intend to do a bit of research on the net to find out a lot more about it. No doubt some of my friends will expect me to have a good deal of background knowledge when they find out so my homework starts right now!

“I’ve always been a fan of good food, so it was great to have the opportunity to taste the new Posh Nosh menu. There were a few things on there that I’d never even dream of trying, but it turned out I really liked them. Hopefully this visit will be start of many more to come.”

Rob Hear, manager at the Half Moon said: “We were delighted to welcome Peter into the Half Moon so that he could receive his prize and experience our menu. The winter menu has been very popular with guests and with more seasonal favourites coming on to the menu throughout the year we’re looking forward to delivering even more new flavours.”
