A landmark pub in Bletchingley is to undergo a £415,000 transformation that will see it relaunch as a Chef & Brewer pub with a new name.

The pub on High Street, formerly known as Millers, will close on Sunday 22 January and reopen as The Plough on Thursday 16 February.

The Chef & Brewer pub previously operated under the name The Plough for over a century until 12 years ago the decision was made to brand the pub Millers by the former owners.

Sarah Collett, general manager of The Plough, said: “It’s fantastic that we are taking the pub back to its roots by returning its historic name. The pub is a central hub of the local community and this investment by Spirit Pub Company will return the venue to its former glory.”

Following the investment, The Plough will have a fresh new look inside whilst preserving any historical features and outside there will be an al fresco dining area for the warmer months. And its Chef & Brewer menu is designed with seasonal produce in mind, which is complemented by a range of drinks including traditional cask ales and wines all served in a relaxing and cosy environment.

Sarah added: “The menu offers quality, freshly prepared food at affordable prices, which I am confident will be a big hit with locals. My personal favourites include a trio of Black Pearl scallops on Black pudding for starters, followed by Scottish venison and Merlot pie and finished off with sticky toffee pudding.”

Along with the new name , look and menu, Sarah is now seeking an experienced kitchen manager to join the team. Sarah added: “I’m looking for an experienced chef who understands food quality and presentation and can lead a team. They need to be bright, proactive and passionate about food.”
