There’s loads of great summer events going on near your favourite Northampton Chef & Brewers.
Look to the skies for a festival of airborne colour this 14th to 16th August.
The Northampton Balloon Festival is one of the UK’s biggest and best, and in the right conditions you can expect to see dozens of beautiful, brightly coloured hot air balloons floating in the sky above the Billings Aquadrome.
You’ll need to be up early to catch the event’s morning flights, which begin at 6am, but don’t worry if you fancy a lie-in as there’s an evening flight at 6pm every day. Plus, at 9pm on the Saturday, you can enjoy an amazing ‘balloon glow’, when the balloons are tethered to the ground and glow in the twilight like fantastic lanterns.
You can also meet the balloon pilots every afternoon, who will be happy to answer your questions about their beautiful aircraft. What’s more, here’s a fun fair, trade stands and craft stalls to enjoy when you’re not admiring the balloons.
After the event, come back down to earth with a traditional pub meal and a drink in our historic riverside Britannia Inn, which is within easy reach of the festival and located just off the A45.Reserve your tableFind out more about the event
Head to Northampton for a great weekend of family fun.
With everything from epic jousting displays from the Knights of Nottingham to spectacular hot air balloons floating in the skies, the Northampton Town Festival brings a blaze of colour to summer.
Taking place over the weekend of July 2nd and 3rd at Northampton Racecourse, each day kicks off at 10.30am with balloons already dotting the sky, and the action doesn’t end until 11pm.
There are events for all the family, including a spectacular motorbike stunt team, remarkable dog agility displays and impressive martial arts demonstrations, along with all the excitement and noise of a giant fairground and an extravagant fireworks display. And what’s more, it’s all free.
You’ll also find a wide range of trade and refreshment stalls, and as the sun sinks in the sky, more hot air balloons will rise dramatically up into it. At the same time there will be live music on the festival stage.
If you can drag yourself away from the action, call in for a relaxing dining experience at our historic Britannia Inn on the banks of the River Nene, just to the south of the racecourse..Reserve your tableFind out more about the event
Step into the dragon’s lair at this colourful dragon boat race.
Up to 48 teams will gather together on Sunday July 17th for the Rotary Dragon Festival; a thrilling dragon boat race along a 250-yard course at Northampton’s Billing Aquadrome.
Easily reached from the A45, this is a boat race which isn’t just about racing. There’s a prize for the best-dressed team as well as for the winners, and each boat carries a drummer and ten paddlers, so every race is a noisy and exciting spectacle.
The racing starts at 10am and the final takes place around 5pm. In between watching the action on the water, you can also enjoy exciting fun fair rides, live music and various displays.
The Dragon Festival is organised by the Rotary Clubs of Northampton, and all profits go to the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Service and other local charities. So you’ll not only have a great day out, but you’ll also contribute to some very worthy causes.
And after all the watery action, stop off and wet your whistle at our popular Britannia Inn, located just a few miles down the road on the banks of the River Nene.Reserve your tableFind out more about the event
